Restaurants

We’re both chefs, among other things, so we’re tough to please and rarely recommend restaurants because we usually cook better at home. Here’s a directory for dining in St. A Beach.

We will tell you where we go when we do go out, but unless you know you like our taste, we can’t make any promises.

We go to Crescent Beach Café for beach fish sandwiches and drinks (light on lines, loud cycles and smokers, heavy on fresh fish and views).
When we want hyper-healthy, we visit Present Moment Café for fresh, raw foods and a big dose of imagination. If you're vegan, eat organic, or want to boost your diet with more healthy choices, Present Moment will inspire and satisfy you. There's a market for takeout and live music on Friday and Saturday nights.

95 Cordova in the Hotel Casa Monica is about the only place we suggest for elegant special occasions or jazz and desserts. There’s also a good coffee shop in the Hotel if you’re downtown and don’t want touristy places for sandwiches and salads. Don’t be intimidated by the prices or fancy reputation, they’re used to tourists in their shorts and the staff is usually welcoming.

La Pentola - First class food, tough parking. Reservations Strongly Suggested.
58 Charlotte St
(904) 824-3282 - Directions

Zhanra's Art and tapas downtown, easy parking
108 Anastasia Blvd
(904) 823-3367 - Directions

Bistro De Leon new restaurant opened by fifth generation chef and his wine making wife.
12 Cathedral Pl., Saint Augustine - (904) 810-2100

Close to the condo, we ride bikes to the Tea Room for breakfast or lunch and G’pops Kitchen for dinner. Both are in the same shopping center on US 1, family owned and run, and use organic when possible. G’pops is high on value, nothing on the dinner menu over $12.
     4010 US 1 S.
     St. Augustine, FL
(In plaza w/Dollar General, just south of Moultrie Creek)

Barnes & Noble on US 1 has a good café, sandwiches, soup before 8:30 PM (they run out by 9 even though they’re open).

Creekside or Saltwater Cowboys - Dana’s favorite, authentic regional cooking ala Marjorie Keenan Rawlings. Get the shrimp and grits and you’ll probably put Dana in your will for mentioning it. Not fancy. Creekside has a peaceful deck outside with water views, live music and low crowds.

Suggestions for stops on a Marjorie Keenan Rawlings, Cross Creek day trip, including the Yearling Restaurat.
